How do your colleagues describe you?

I love to meet people, share ideas, and write. Friends tease that I enjoy writing a little TOO much…as I have never met a keyboard that I couldn’t wear out.

Why do you do what you do?

Helping individuals work to take their “big ideas,” their hobbies and/or passions, and create a reliable and sustainable source of income (even creating jobs for several other individuals in the process) is easily the most enjoyable work I have ever done. Taking my decades of experience to try and help others have a rewarding career.

EXPERIENCE:

Prior to my work with the Small Business Development Center in southwestern Oregon, I spent seven years working in higher education at two institutions in Minnesota, as well as 22+ years working full-time in creating and operating my own small business. I worked with approximately 650 clients across eleven time zones, working across .edu, .gov, .mil and .com industry sectors. I also worked for two years with the Small Business Development Center in southwestern Minnesota, advising dozens of clients across a broad collection of industries.

How do your colleagues describe you?

Mary’s colleagues describe her as thoughtful, knowledgeable, resourceful, tenacious, kind, and enjoyable to work with.

Why do you do what you do?

When I started my first business I didn’t know how to start or what to do. I find that being able to provide clients with the resources and information they need through the entire process of starting their business is hugely rewarding. My clients describe me as a good listener who really cares about them and their business.

Bio:

Mary grew up in North Bend and moved to San Diego as an adult. Mary developed the Employment Resources Center for the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton. She completed her Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Institutional Administration. While living in San Diego, she worked at USIU/AIU where she was the System-wide Director of Facilities Management and was responsible for 7 campuses.

She owned a manufactured home business and became a real estate broker and a notary in Southern California. Upon returning home to North Bend, she began working with the SBDC to offer her vast experience to helping small businesses succeed.

Bio:

Gayle possesses an MBA in Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Quantitative Analysis. Gayle has been a college instructor for 36 years in two areas: Business Management and Entrepreneurship. For 30 years, she was also the owner of a corporation and worked as an Executive Adviser to business owners who were involved with a wide variety of businesses. It is her combination of education and experience that makes her uniquely qualified to advise business owners.
