Exzacht Sewing & Alterations

Owner Cathy Zacharias of Exzacht Sewing & Alterations was the sole employee when she connected with the Small Business Development Center at Treasure Valley Community College. After winning a contract to produce vinyl seat covers for a cycle company that would increase her weekly production, she needed to expand her business to meet the contract requirements.

Through working with the SBDC, Cathy was able to win the Eastern Oregon Border Board Scott Fairly Memorial Edge Grant, which funded two new commercial sewing machines and tripled the business’s capacity. The company has also hired and trained new staff, allowing employees to be exposed to a wider range of work through the new machines.

“Working with the SBDC has catapulted my business to a level I never expected,” Cathy said. “With the help of every member of the SBDC team, I am a confident business owner, with the tools to become a profitable professional company.”
